Getting to Chez Moulton, Bansko

You're generally looking at around three hours flying time from the UK to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. We are presently unable to offer flights however flights are readily available via the internet or alternatively High Steet travel agents, we've listed a few suggested websites in the information box on the right. When searching for flights don't forget to include all London Airports.

We've always booked our own flights via the internet using British Airways and have never had a problem.

Transportation Services

Travelling from Sofia airport to Chez Moulton, Bansko you basically have three options; you can pre-arrange an airport car transfer, rent a car or take the bus.

During the winter season we've always organised an airport transfer for ourselves as we had no need for a car once we've arrived at Bansko, we were skiing every day. During the summer though we did rent a car, that we picked up from the airport.

Organising an Airport Transfer

Airport (car) transfers from Sofia to Bansko can be arranged through a number of different companies, you'll find some links to a few in the information box on the right.

Transfer time from Sofia airport to Bansko is around 2.5 hours.

Renting a Car

A number of car rental desks are available in the arrivals hall for Avis, Hertz, Sixt, Budget and Tany Rent. Links to their websites can be found in the information box on the right.

Taking the Bus

When you arrive at Sofia Airport you can locate the bus stop about 100m to the right of the international arrivals terminal. You'll find a small kiosk selling tickets at the bus stop. Buses run between about 7am and 11pm. The bus will take you to the centre of Sofia from where you can then get a bus onwards to Bansko. Sofia Airport is about 10km from the centre of Sofia.

When you arrive at Bansko the bus station is on the northern fringe of town, around ten minutes walk from the centre. The bus station is modern and spacious. There are regular bus lines from Bansko to Sofia as well as destinations such as Blagoevgrad, Gotse Delchev, Razlog, Dobrinishte and many other villages in the district.

Bansko is a growing mountain resort with a current population of around 12,000 permanent residents.

Bulgaria has a population of 8.9 million people and is located in the southeastern corner of Europe, sharing borders with Romania, Yugoslavia, Macedonia, Greece and Turkey.

The majority of Bulgarians speak the Slavic language which has similarities to the Russian language.

Signs, menus, etc are mostly in the Cyrillic alphabet though you'll see some signs in the Roman alphabet.
